How each one is actually licensed

NetSuite

NetSuite is not a simple "price per user" SaaS. A NetSuite subscription is built from three independent layers:

  • The platform / edition — Limited Edition, Mid-Market or Enterprise (and OneWorld on top, if you need multi-subsidiary).
  • Modules and SuiteApps — Advanced Financials, Fixed Assets, SuiteBilling, Advanced Revenue Management, WMS, Manufacturing, etc. Each is licensed independently.
  • User licenses by type — Full users, plus lower-cost roles like Employee Self-Service, Vendor Center, Customer Center and Warehouse users. You buy a mix; not everyone needs a full seat.

That's why two companies with the same headcount can pay very different amounts. The biggest cost lever is usually which modules are in scope, not the raw number of named users — and most teams overpay by buying full licenses for people who only need self-service access.

SAP S/4HANA

SAP uses a named-user model (every human is classified as Professional, Limited Professional or Employee). For S/4HANA Cloud and RISE with SAP, those classifications are bundled into Full Use Equivalents (FUE) — a single metric that converts different user types into one number on the contract. On top of that, SAP licenses engines, digital access (document-based), industry editions and BTP services separately.

Choose NetSuite when…

  • You're a fast-growing or mid-market business that needs clean financials quickly.
  • You operate across multiple entities, currencies and tax regimes.
  • You want one cloud system for finance, ops, CRM and e-commerce — without running ABAP.
  • You value predictable, automatic upgrades over deep platform-level customization.

Choose SAP S/4HANA when…

  • You run complex discrete or process manufacturing at scale.
  • Your business depends on deep MRP, plant maintenance or PP-PI logic.
  • You're already in the SAP ecosystem (Ariba, SuccessFactors, BTP, Concur).
  • Enterprise-grade industry templates outweigh time-to-value.

One honest note on pricing

Neither vendor publishes a public price list. Any "NetSuite costs $X per user" or "SAP costs $Y per FUE" number you find online is an indicative range from a specific deal, not a quote you can rely on. As partners, we don't share figures here because every deployment is customized — modules, user mix, entities, environments and industry edition all change the total. We're happy to walk through a real quote with you privately.

Still on the fence?

We run vendor-neutral selection workshops. Bring your processes — we'll map them honestly against both platforms and give you a recommendation in writing.
