ORACLE CLOUD MIGRATION

Cloud Migration— from your data centre to OCI, without drama.

Ageing hardware, expiring support contracts or a cloud bill that keeps growing? We move your Oracle databases, applications and content to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with a plan, a rollback and a team that has done it before.

A migration is a business project, not a copy job

Most cloud migrations go wrong for the same reasons: unknown dependencies, dirty data and cut-overs planned around the IT calendar instead of the business. We start by mapping what you really run, decide workload by workload whether to rehost, replatform or modernise, and only then move. Because our roots are in Oracle databases, we know where the hidden risks are.

Assessment & business case

Inventory of servers, databases, applications and licences, with a TCO comparison and a wave-based migration roadmap.

Database migration

Oracle and non-Oracle databases to Autonomous Database, Exadata or Base Database Service using Data Pump, GoldenGate and Zero Downtime Migration.

Application migration

Rehost, replatform or refactor applications, including E-Business Suite, custom Java and APEX workloads.

Content & file migration

Documents, file shares and archives moved to Object Storage or new platforms with metadata, permissions and audit trail preserved.

Cloud-to-cloud

Workloads moved from AWS, Azure or Google Cloud to OCI to cut cost or consolidate on one provider.

Validation & hypercare

Automated data checks, performance testing and a support period after go-live until everything runs smoothly.

CHOOSE YOUR PATH

Six ways to move a workload, and what each one really means

There is no single "right" migration. Click a strategy to see when it makes sense, what you gain and what it costs you.

Rehost — Lift and shift

Best when: You need to leave a data centre fast, hardware is end-of-life, or a contract is expiring.

Risk1/3
Long-term benefit2/3

Pros

  • Fastest route to the cloud
  • No code changes
  • Low project risk
  • Oracle Cloud Migrations automates much of it

Cons

  • Inherits today's inefficiencies
  • Smaller cost savings at first
  • Doesn't use managed services

IMPLICATIONS

What changes when you move, the good and the things to watch

Open each topic to see the upside and the honest caveats we discuss with every client before signing off a plan.

UPSIDE

Pay for what you use, no hardware refresh cycles, and OCI's data egress and compute prices are typically lower than other hyperscalers.

WATCH OUT FOR

Cloud costs grow quietly without governance. Budgets, tagging and right-sizing must be part of the plan from day one.

THE ORACLE TOOLKIT

How Oracle Cloud Migrations (OCM) speeds things up

For virtual machines running on VMware or AWS, Oracle provides Oracle Cloud Migrations, a native OCI service we use to automate the heavy lifting.

  1. 1. Prepare the tenancy

Compartments, IAM policies, groups and a Vault for credentials are set up so the service runs securely.

  2. 2. Discover

Source environments (VMware vSphere or AWS EC2) are scanned to build an inventory of assets and their performance metrics.

  3. 3. Plan

Migration plans recommend OCI shapes and estimate monthly cost, based on real utilisation.

  4. 4. Replicate

Disks are replicated to OCI in the background while the source keeps running.

  5. 5. Launch

Target instances are created from the replicated data, tested and switched over.

The OCM service itself has no extra charge; you pay for the OCI resources you use. Databases are moved with Zero Downtime Migration, Data Pump or GoldenGate instead.

QUICK CHECK

How ready are you for a cloud migration?

Answer five quick questions. It takes 30 seconds and gives you a feel for where to start.

Do you have an up-to-date inventory of your servers, databases and applications?

Do you know which systems depend on each other?

Is there a hardware renewal or data-centre contract ending in the next 18 months?

Has your team worked with a public cloud before?

Do you have a clear view of your Oracle licences?

Our cloud migration approach

  1. 1. Discover

Map workloads, dependencies, data volumes and constraints.

  2. 2. Plan

Choose the strategy per workload and group them into migration waves.

  3. 3. Prepare

Build the OCI landing zone, networking, security and test migrations.

  4. 4. Migrate

Execute each wave with rehearsed cut-overs and rollback plans.

  5. 5. Optimise

Right-size, tune costs and hand over to operations.

Cloud migration FAQ

How long does a cloud migration take?

It depends on the number and complexity of workloads. A single database can move in weeks; a full data-centre exit is usually planned in several waves over a few months.

Will we have downtime?

We design for minimal downtime. With replication tools like GoldenGate, many critical databases can be switched over in minutes, scheduled when it suits your business.

Rehost, replatform or refactor: which is right?

Usually a mix. Stable systems are often rehosted first for speed, while workloads that benefit from managed services are replatformed or modernised. We decide per workload in the assessment.

Can we keep our existing Oracle licences?

In many cases yes, through Bring Your Own License on OCI. We review your licence position as part of the business case.
